Vikings Finish Second at Turning Stone as Bailey Claims Medalist Honors

VERONA, N.Y. - All four of Cleveland State's scorers carded under par rounds as the Vikings shot a final round seven under par 281 to finish as the runner up at the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate that concluded on Sunday at the par-72, 7,015-yard Kaluhyat G.C.

It was the season opening tournament for CSU, who finished behind tournament host Missouri.

The Vikings finished with a 54-hole total of 869 (290-298-281).

In addition, senior Andrew Bailey carded a final round 71 to earn medalist honors by one shot. Bailey carded under par rounds of 66-70-71 to finish with a 54 hole total of 207 to win the individual title by one shot over Ryan Zech of Missouri.

It is the third tournament title for Bailey, who shared medalist honors with teammate Michael Klaric at the 2011 Horizon League Championship and also won the 2011 Cleveland State Invitational, the last individual title for a CSU golfer.

Bailey made 35 pars and 14 birdies in his 54 holes of play for the weekend.

Junior Michael Balcar fired CSU's best round of the day with a three-under-par 69 and wound up tied for 23rd place at 2221 (76-76-70). Freshman Pat Luth carded  two-under-par 70 in today's final round and tied for 35th place with rounds of 78-78-70 (226).

Senior Brendan Byrne finished a strong showing with a one-under-par 71 to tie for 16th place at 219 (74-74-71), while sophomore Mitchell Moore tied for 33rd place (74-78-73 - 225).

The Vikings are back in action on Sept. 9-10 when CSU competes at the Marshall Inivational.
