HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - The Cleveland State men's golf team had four golfers finish in the top eight en route to a runner-up finish at the Horizon League Championship that concluded on Sunday at the par-72, 6,770-yard Mission Inn Resort.
The Vikings shot a final round 296 today, finishing with a 54 hole total of 888 (300-292-296). Valparaiso won the title by four shots, carding rounds of 301-289-294 (884).
Detroit was third at 901 and was followed by Loyola (906), Green Bay (910), Youngstown State (911) and Wright State (936).
Junior Andrew Bailey finished as the runner-up in the individual standings, one of four Vikings to finish in the top eight. Bailey carded a 54 hole total of two-over-par 218 (70-72-76), finishing four shots behind Valparaiso's Thomas Wettstein who claimed medalist honors at two-under-par 214 (72-72-70).
Sophomore Michael Balcar tied for third place at 222 (75-71-76), while senior Jon Riemer and junior Brendan Byrne both finished with even-par 72's today to move up and finish tied for eighth at 224.
Bailey and Balcar earned spots on the all-tournament team for finishing in the top seven.
