Vikings Travel to Boilermaker Invitational

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State men's golf team will play in its final tournament before heading to the league championship when the Vikings compete in the Boilermaker Invitational on Saturday and Sunday (April 20-21).

The 54-hole event will be played at the par72, 7,465-yard Kampen Course and hosted by Purdue.

The 18 team field includes Akron, Chicago State, CSU, Creighton, Drake, Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kent State, Louisville, Loyola, Miami (OH), Michigan State, Northern Illinois, Purdue, Toledo and Wichita State.

The field will begin play at 8:45 a.m. on Saturday with a shotgun start and play 36 holes with an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start also scheduled for the final 18 holes on Sunday.

CSU was last in action over the weekend at the Detroit Titan Invitational, carding rounds of 294-299-298 to finish as the runner-up in the 12-team field.

Junior Andrew Bailey shot a 54-hole total of 216 (71-73-72) to finish fifth in the individual standings, one of four Vikings to finish in the top-20.

Brendan Byrne tied for 15th place at 224 (76-75-73), while Jon Riemer was 17th after rounds of 74-76-75 (225). FreshmanMitchell Moore, who was playing in his first tournament of the spring, shot rounds of 73-75-78 (226) and tied for 18th place.

Bailey, last year's Horizon League Player of the Year, leads the Vikings with a 72.8 scoring average, currently the second lowest single season average in program history. Jake Scott holds the record at 72.7 in 2007-08. 

 
 
 


Bailey has a pair of top-five finishes this year and three top-10 finishes and leads the team with 10 rounds of par or better.

Junior Michael Balcar, who tied for sixth place at the Detroit Invitational as an individual last weekend, is second on the squad with a 74.8 scoring average, while Riemer is third at 74.9.

The Vikings will be back in action on April 26-28 when CSU competes in the Horizon League Championship in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
