MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Playing in one of the most prestigious tournaments in program history, the Cleveland State men's golf team shot a first round 313 and was tied for eighth place out of 16 teams after the opening round of the Memphis Intercollegiate on Monday.

The tournament, which features four top-50 teams and several others in the top-100, is being played at the par-72, 7,334-yard Colonial Country Club South course.

Cold weather delayed the start of the tournament and did not allow teams to finish their second rounds. Players will finish their final holes (most need to play four or five holes) before starting the final round.

Playing one of the strongest fields in program history, CSU carded a 313 in the opening round and was tied for eighth place with UMKC. Austin Peay and South Alabama were tied for the lead after the opening round at 303.

Andrew Bailey led CSU with a first round 77, while Michael Balcar shot 78 and Brendan Byrne and Jon Riemer carded 79's.

Balcar's round included three birdies and an eagle two on the 376-yard, par-four, 11th hole.

Teams will finish the final round beginning at 8:00 a.m. CST on Tuesday before playing the final round at 9:00 a.m. CST.
