CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State men's basketball team held its annual end of the season awards banquet on Sunday afternoon at the Wolstein Center.

In front of more than 130 people that included family members, program supporters and administrators, head coach Gary Waters honored each of the 13 players on the roster who received their awards.

In addition, several individual awards were handed out.

Director of Basketball Operations Samba Johnson presented the first two awards, both of which went to sophomore Charlie Lee who took home the free throw champion and assist champion awards. Lee led the Vikings and was second in the Horizon League, shooting .864 (76-88) from the free throw line and also led the league in assists with 4.8 per game. His 153 assists were the most by a sophomore in CSU history and Lee is one of just five players to record at least 200 assists at CSU through his sophomore season.

Assistant coach Jermaine Kimbrough was next, presenting sophomore Marlin Mason with the rebounding champion award and freshman Aaron Scales with the Sportsmanship Award. Mason topped the team with 170 rebounds this year, averaging 5.3 per game.

Assistant coach Larry DeSimpelare was next to the podium and presented Bryn Forbes with the Freshman of the Year Award and junior Devon Long with the Most Improved Player award.

Forbes, the Horizon League Newcomer of the Year, led the Vikings and was 12th in the league in scoring at 12.7 points per game. Long, who played in 39 games during his first two seasons, saw a much larger role this year, starting 22 of the 26 games he played in and averaging 6.7 points and 3.5 rebounds per game.

Associate head coach Jayson Gee spoke about sophomore Sebastian Douglas before awarding him the Defensive Player of the Year award. Douglas tied for the team lead with 38 steals and often spearheaded CSU's defensive efforts.

Waters gave the final award of the afternoon, the Senior Award, to Tim Kamczyc who concluded his outstanding career this year. Kamczyc, who was the lone senior on this year's squad, finished his career ranked third in school history in games played (134) and fifth in career starts (106). His 106 straight starts are tied for the most in program history. Kamczyc finished his career as part of three postseason squads, including one NCAA tournament and two NIT teams. Just one of 12 players in program history to play every game of a four-year career, Kamczyc was part of 79 victories at CSU.
