Postgame Quotes

Recap |  Final Stats |  Notes

Cleveland State Head Coach Gary Waters:
(Opening statement) "We went into this game with some goals and objectives. One was to hold this team in the 50s, which we did with our starters. The other was to do better on the boards, and I thought we did that as well."

(On West Virginia Tech) "This team is going to be a pretty good team in the IA. They got athletes, they can shoot the ball and they got size."

(On why he scheduled this game) "We've got finals week coming and I don't want to play a crazy game before finals week. I didn't want to give them a rough road because I knew we had conference games that were locked in."

(On being 11-0) "We're in a pretty good spot. They're humble young men, and they can turn up the heat, which is what I like about this team. The team has been built to do this, and that started back in the summer."

(On Norris Cole) "Norris in my estimation is the best guard in the midwest. I said in the Horizon League, I'm beyond that now. His floor game is starting to catch up with his abilities. It has taken him two years to identify what he has to do as a point guard and now it's coming easily to him."

(On what he hopes to learn from the next two games) "A couple things I want to find out is how well we rebound. West Virginia attacks the glass. Sam Houston attacks the glass. So we have to do a much better job there. Also, we're going to find out how strong our defense is."

Cleveland State's Jeremy Montgomery:
(On his performance) "I had to make plays for my team tonight and basically try to get the victory as we did, but our establishment is defense, that's what we do."

(On attacking in this game) "I like to shoot threes a lot, but I think I can get to the rim. It opens things up for the other guys, so I try to attack first before shooting."

Cleveland State's Josh McCoy:
(On his performance) "I just tried to go out there and play. My job coming off the bench is rebounding and defending, because that's what we do. I just try to bring a lift off the bench as much as I can."

Cleveland State's Norris Cole:
(On overcoming the close score early) "We gave up too many points and we had to remind ourselves that this was a defensive game. Once we went on that run, we remembered who we were and what we have to do."

(On not playing as many minutes) "I don't care about the minutes. This game was about getting better and getting our team ready for the next game. We took care of business today and I was able to get some rest and that's good."

(On being 11-0) "We figure work hard and the results will pay off. Our team has matured from last season and we've worked hard this season and it's paid off."
