CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland State was limited to a season-low shooting percentage and dropped its regular season home finale, 50-41, to Wright State on Wednesday night in the Wolstein Center.
The Vikings fell to 13-16 overall and 5-10 in the Horizon League, while WSU improved to 18-9 this season and 9-5 in the league.
Charlie Lee paced the Vikings with 12 points, while Devon Long was the only other player to reach double-figures, scoring 10 points with four rebounds. Sebastian Douglas added six points, six rebounds and four assists, while Tim Kamczyc added five points and four rebounds in his final regular season home game of his career.
Kamczyc was playing in his 131st career game, the third most in program history, and was making his 103 straight start, also third most in CSU history.
The Vikings struggled from the field all night, shooting just 16-of-61 (.262), including 4-of-22 (.182) from three-point. CSU was able to get its 61 shots thanks to second chance opportunities with a season-high 20 offensive rebounds. However, they led to just eight second chance points.
CSU was also just 5-of-10 from the free throw line.
The Viking defense was able to keep them in the game, holding the Raiders to a 16-of-39 (.410) performance from the field, but it was WSU's timely shooting down the stretch and 14-of-17 (.824) effort at the free throw line that helped them claim the win.
Both teams had long scoring droughts in the second half with the Raiders taking a five point lead (29-24) less than two minutes into the half. But the Vikings used an 8-2 run to take a 32-31 lead with 15 minutes left on two free throws from Lee.
Three WSU free throws were the only points over the next seven minutes and after a Long free throw brought CSU back within one (34-33) with eight minutes left, the Raiders made their move, outscoring the Vikings, 13-4 over the next five minutes to take a 10 point lead (47-37) with 3:27 left on a Matt Vest three-pointer.
CSU could get no closer than six points the rest of the night.
The Raiders, who were playing their first game in eight days, scored the first six points of the contest to take a 6-0 lead less than three minutes in to force a CSU timeout. The Vikings responded with baskets by Long, Sebastian Douglas and Forbes to tie the contest at 6-6.
The score was tied three more times throughout the half and neither team led by more than four points, that coming when an AJ Pacher three-pointer with 2:17 left in the half gave the Raiders a 25-21 lead. It stayed that way at the half.
Vest led the Raiders with 12 points, while Jerran Young scored 11 points with eight rebounds.
The Vikings are back in action on Saturday (Feb. 23) when CSU heads to Western Illinois for an 8:00 p.m. EST contest as part of the 2013 Ramada BracketBusters.
