Cleveland State Drops 87-74 Decision To Visiting UIC

CLEVELAND - Despite shooting 51 percent from the field Thursday night, Cleveland State was upended by visiting Illinois-Chicago 87-74 at Goodman Arena in a Horizon League contest.

However, the Flames (17-7, 10-4 Horizon League) matched the Vikes' (8-18, 3-10) output from the field, hitting 51.6 percent. UIC went 33-of-64 from the floor compared to 26-of-51 for CSU.

In addition, UIC dominated the boards, holding a 45-23 advantage as Kyle Kickert and Armond Williams grabbed 12 and 11 rebounds, respectively. Pape Badiane (les Ulis, France/Faith Christian Academy) pulled down a team-high seven for the Vikings.

UIC's Cedric Banks led all scorers with 27 points. Percell Coles (Philadelphia, Pa./Simon Gratz) hit six 3-pointers en route to a team-high 21 points for CSU.

Three other Vikings hit double figures - Badiane with 14 points, Modibo Niakate (Paris, France/Hutchinson C.C.) with 12 and Jonathan Burge (Cleveland, Ohio/South) with 11. For the Flames, Williams and Jonathan Schneiderman added 14 apiece while Martell Bailey chipped in 12 markers.

Badiane also equalled a career-high with five blocked shots.

Cleveland State returns to action Saturday when the Vikings play host to Loyola Chicago at 7 p.m. at Goodman Arena.
