Postgame Quotes

Recap |  Final Stats |  Notes

Cleveland State Head Coach Gary Waters:
"(Opening remarks) They came in here and outplayed us today, that's all you can say. We made 18 buckets and when you hit 18 buckets you are not going to beat very many teams. Thier last six games, teams shot 45% on them. We did not execute and we didn't do what we were supposed to. I went away from something, what we do is pressure them and the last time they went right at us. If they can beat us that way, they can beat us our way. That's what we have to work on and get it done. They have not gotten our best game yet. That's a positive."

"(On the Trevon Harmon and the bench) Trey got in foul trouble. When you are taking 15 points out of your lineup, that hurts. Our bench did nothing. They were getting scored on and they did not score. I thought we were going to have a good half if Aaron (Pogue) was out there, but he was in foul trouble. They had him handcuffed."

"(On changing the tempo of the game) We had to speed up the game and get turnovers or try to play it head to head, and they really out-executed us. I think our execution hurt because we did not have our two best players on the floor. We hit our shots, but they were hitting their shots."

"(On the transition to Monday's game) I need to get their minds focused, because this game on Monday is going to be tough. We are getting everybody's best shot. When you have won 21 game, there are more games to be won."

"(On taking a 16-8 lead) We were on a emotional high. I told them to be intense, not emotional."

"(On Aaron Pogue) He had a bad game. He knew he had a bad game."

Cleveland State's Norris Cole:
"(On Butler's defense) They had a good focus on getting back in transition, they had three or four guys getting back. It's on us to execute and we know that every game is not going to be a fast one."

"(On the game's tempo) They did what we thought they were going to do. It slowed down in the second half and they took the advantage. You can't beat a team if they are shooting 50% and you are shooting 40%. Lucky shots happen in basketball, but you have to keep playing. "

"(On Butler's game) They played well against us. That's on us. We will get our chance again. I'm not down, our team is not down. We are ready for Detroit."

Cleveland State's Jeremy Montgomery:
"(On hitting his first three shots early) I was trying not to force it and force the issue. I found the open shot and hit them."

Butler Head Coach Brad Stevens:
"(Opening statements) Our ball movement in the second half is as good as it has been. When the game is a little slower, like it was today, it means that we were defending well."

"(On CSU's reputation) It was one of the days that they did not dictate the defensive tempo."

"(On snapping the three-game losing streak) It's easy to be super down and ride that emotional rollercoaster. Our defense improved and we had other things go for us in the second half. You move forward and don't dwell on it."

"(On CSU's speed) I would call them a selected transition team. When they choose to, Noris Cole is fast with the ball, so you better get back. Your defense better be set. "

"(On the Wolstein Center) Best enviornment I have been in here since coming here. It shows what they have been able to do here. "

Butler's Matt Howard:
"(On if he 'gets up for CSU') I don't feel like I get up for any one game more than another. It was a team effort and guys stepped up and played well. I think we wore them out by making them guard us.

"(On the three pointers) I have been told to shoot rainbows. Maybe a better arc gives you a better chance. I just looked at the basket and let it go. There was no other option then turn it over."

"(On stopping the losing streak) We had to stop what was going on. Maybe things don't go your way, but we played really hard and we won in the end."

Butler's Shaun VanZant:
"(On their approch to the game) We know the focus is on the guards. We needed to get back and keep our focus on the guards. We wanted to stay tight on the guards. We wanted to shut down (Jeremy) Montgomery and (Norris) Cole. "
