CLEVELAND, Ohio - Bryn Forbes scored 14 points and Tim Kamczyc tallied all 13 of his points in the second half as Cleveland State earned its first Horizon League win of the season with a 60-50 victory over UIC on Monday night in the Wolstein Center.

The Vikings improved to 9-7 overall and 1-1 in the Horizon League, while UIC fell to 10-5 overall and 1-1 in league play.

The win extended CSU's win streak over UIC to 11 straight.

UIC's 50 points were the second lowest allowed by the Vikings this year. Grambling scored 49 in CSU's season opening win.

After going scoreless in the first half, Kamczyc hit three key three-pointers in the final 20 minutes en route to 13 points. He added four rebounds and three steals. Sebastian Douglas finished with 10 points, four rebounds and four steals. Charlie Lee added six points and six assists, while Junior Lomomba scored seven points.

The Vikings turned solid defense into offense in scoring the first eight points of the game to take an 8-0 lead two minutes in.

Forbes, making his second career start, made a steal and converted a fast break layup after UIC won the tip. Douglas made his first of four first half steals on the next possession and would hit two free throws to extend the lead to 4-0. A Devon Long dunk and a steal and transition layup from Douglas made it 8-0, forcing UIC into a quick timeout.

The Flames came out of the timeout and used a 16-7 run to take a 16-15 lead on two free throws by Marc Brown with 11:20 left in the half. The teams continued to trade baskets until a Josh Ivory three-pointer with 2:45 to play started a 7-0 run by CSU to close the half, giving the Vikings a 28-21 lead at the intermission.

It was just the fourth time all season that the Vikings led at the half.

The Vikings used their defensive pressure to force 12 UIC turnovers in the first half, turning them into 16 points. UIC came into the game as one of the top teams taking care of the ball, averaging just 10.9 per game.

CSU used bookend three-pointers from Forbes and Kamczyc for a 10-2 run to open the second half and extend the lead to 15 points (38-23).

The Vikings extended the lead to 16 points on two occasions in the second half, but the Flames cut the lead back to nine (49-40) with just under five minutes left, but a Kamczyc layup and Forbes jumper pushed the CSU back to 13 points (53-40) and UIC didn't threaten from there.

The Vikings finished with a 32-30 rebounding edge and scored 19 points off UIC's 18 turnovers. CSU tallied 11 steals.

The Vikings are back in action on Wednesday (Jan. 9) when CSU travels to Wright State for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
