COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Tre Gomillion scored a season-high 18 points and Algevon Eichelberger added 13 points and seven rebounds, but a strong second half by South Carolina carried the Gamecocks to a 90-63 victory over the Vikings in Colonial Life Arena on Friday.

The Vikings played their best half of basketball of the season in the first half against the Gamecocks. Cleveland State fell behind by 17 midway through the first half, but rallied to within 45-40 at the intermission.

Cleveland State, which dropped to 1-3 on the season, shot a blistering 56.0 percent from the floor in the first half and limited South Carolina to 35.9 percent shooting in the opening 20 minutes.

Gomillion finished the game 6-of-9 from the floor and 6-of-7 from the foul line to pace the Vikings. He also had four rebounds, a steal and an assist before fouling out in the second half.

Eichelberger was a force inside for Cleveland State with 13 points and seven rebounds. He was 5-of-14 from the field and added a blocked shot.

Tyrese Potoma came off the bench to score seven points for Cleveland State.

Jeremy Sanchez and Daylen Williams earned starts for the first time this season. Sanchez had two points and five rebounds, while Williams tallied two rebounds and two assists.

Cleveland State returns to the Wolstein Center on Tuesday (Nov. 19) to host Florida International at 7 p.m.
