CLEVELAND -- Cleveland State will close out the 2018-19 season on Saturday (March 2) when it visits Youngstown State in a Horizon League game scheduled for 6 p.m. in the Beeghly Center.
The Vikings will look to finish the season on a high note as CSU played one of its better games of the season last Saturday in knocking off Northern Kentucky and ending the Norse 20-game home winning streak.
Junior Jaalam Hill was outstanding for the Vikings as he posted a double-double to lead Cleveland State to the road victory. He scored a career-high 26 points and tied his career high with 12 rebounds and posted his first double-double of the year.
Sophomore Tyree Appleby and freshman Rashad Williams also reached double figures in scoring for the Vikings as they each finished with 15 points. Appleby also added eight assists and two rebounds, while Williams contributed two assists and a steal.
Cleveland State, which is 9-21 overall and 4-13 in the Horizon League, shot 57.1 percent from the floor in the second half and 50.8 percent from the field for the game.
Cleveland State will be attempting to complete the season sweep of the Penguins as the Vikings earned their first Horizon League win of the season with a 72-62 victory over Youngstown State on Jan. 26 in the Wolstein Center. Williams led the way for the Vikings with 20 points, while Hill and Appleby each had 16 points.
Appleby has been the Vikings leading scorer thoughout the season and is currently averaging 16.9 points per game. He also leads the Horizon League averaging 5.6 assists per game and is the only player in the conference ranked in the top five in scoring, assists and steals.
Williams is second on the Vikings averaging 10.9 points per game and ranks second in CSU single-season history with 88 three-point baskets. Williams tops the Horizon League in three-point field goal percentage in both overall and conference games.
Hill is third on the team averaging 10.8 points per contest and leads the Vikings averaging 6.2 rebounds and 1.2 blocked shots per game. He also tops CSU shooting 58.1 percent from the floor, which would lead the conference if he had enough field goal attempts to qualify.
Cleveland State leads the all-time series against Youngstown State 49-43.
