Vikings Continue Homestand Against Wright State

CLEVELAND -- Cleveland State will play the middle game of a three-game homestand on Saturday (Jan. 19) when it hosts Wright State in a Horizon League game at 1 p.m. in the Wolstein Center.

The game was originally scheduled to be played at 7 p.m., but with the impending winter storm invading the Cleveland area the athletic department moved the game to 1 p.m. for the safety of student-athletes and fans. Tickets purchased in advance for the game will still be honored for the 1 p.m. start time.

Cleveland State, which is 5-15 overall and 0-7 in conference play, dropped a 91-76 decision to visiting Northern Kentucky in the Wolstein Center on Thursday. Freshman Rashad Williams, who was making his first career start, scored a team-high 23 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the floor to lead the Vikings. Stefan Kenic added 11 points and Kasheem Thomas finished with 10 points for Cleveland State.

The Vikings, who are 5-6 at home this season, are led by sophomore Tyree Appleby who is averaging 17.8 points and 5.1 assists per game for the season. Appleby missed Thursday's game against Northern Kentucky due to illness, which brought an end to a string of 23 consecutive games started. Appleby is ranked fifth in the Horizon League in scoring (17.8 ppg), third in assists (5.1 apg) and fourth in steals (1.5 spg).

Stefan Kenic, who has reached double figures in scoring in 14 of the last 18 games, is second on the team averaging 11.1 points per game. He scored 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the field against Northern Kentucky on Thursday.

Williams is third on the Vikings averaging 9.9 points per game and leads the team with 50 three-pointers. He ranks sixth in the Horizon League averaging 2.5 three-pointers per game and is shooting 37.6 percent from distance.

Jaalam Hill, who is averaging 9.2 points and a team-leading 6.4 rebounds per game, is ranked second in the Horizon League shooting 55.2 percent from the floor and is seventh in the conference in reboudning.

In Horizon League play, Appleby is averaging 20.2 points per game, while Williams is averaging 11.6 points and Hill is scoring 10.4 points per contest.

Wright State, which is 9-10 overall and 3-3 in conference play, is coming off of an 80-74 road win at Youngstown State on Thursday. The Raiders rallied from a seven-point halftime deficit to defeat Youngstown State as Malachi Smith and Bill Wampler each scored 17 points.
