YPSILANTI, Mich. – Bryn Forbes scored 22 points, his third 20-point game of the season, and Trey Lewis added a career-high 19, but Cleveland State dropped an 81-69 contest at Eastern Michigan on Monday night as part of the Keightley Classic.

The Vikings fell to 2-2, while EMU remained perfect this season at 4-0.

CSU was playing its third game in six days in its third different time zone after games at San Francisco and Texas Arlington last week.

Forbes hit all six of his free throws and is now a perfect 20-for-20 at the line this year.

Devon Long finished with eight points and seven rebounds.

Karrington Ward paced the Eagles with 28 points.

The first half was back and forth with nine ties and seven lead changes. The Eagles took their biggest lead of the half, 16-10, six minutes in on a Jalen Ross free throw. But the Vikings responded with eight straight points – four baskets by four different players – to regain an 18-16 advantage midway through the half.

Six ties followed as neither team was able to pull ahead by more than three points, that coming when Sebastian Douglas came up with a steal and coast-to-coast layup with eight seconds left in the half, giving CSU a 35-32 lead at the intermission.

The Eagles scored 49 second half points, including a 17-for-26 effort at the free throw line, while CSU could manage just six-for-34 from the field in the final 20 minutes.

After the 12th tie of the night (47-47 with 13:21 to play), the Eagles used a 14-1 run over the next four minutes to open up their largest lead of the game, 61-48, with just over nine minutes to play.

CSU pulled back within six (67-61) with 4:28 to play on a pair of free throws from Lewis, but could get no closer the rest of the game.

The Eagles finished 24-of-39 at the free throw line, while CSU hit 24-of-31 at the charity stripe. The Vikings out-rebounded EMU, 50-33, including 26-5 on the offensive end, leading to 26 second chance points.

The teams combined for 58 fouls, including 37 in the second half as seven players fouled out, including a CSU single game record five for the Vikings.

But CSU hit just 5-of-27 from three-point.

CSU returns home for the first time since the season opener (Nov. 9) and continues play in the Keightley Classic on Saturday (Nov. 23) when the Vikings host Robert Morris at 3:00 p.m. in the Wolstein Center.

It will be a doubleheader with the CSU women hosting Florida Atlantic at 1:00 p.m.
