CHICAGO, Ill. - Fifth-seeded UIC scored the first five points of the game and led from start to finish, defeating eighth-seeded Cleveland State, 82-59, in a first round game of the Horizon League Championship on Tuesday night in the UIC Pavilion.

UIC improved to 17-14 and advances to the second round where the Flames will play fourth-seeded Green Bay on Friday night in Valparaiso.

CSU concludes its season at 14-18 overall.

The win also snaps the Flames 12 game losing streak to the Vikings.

Charlie Lee hit five three-pointers and paced the Vikings with 17 points, while Bryn Forbes scored 16 points with three rebounds, one day after earning Horizon League Newcomer of the Year accolades.

Sebastian Douglas added nine points, six rebounds and three steals and Tim Kamczyc scored six points with four rebounds in his final career game.

Kamczyc was making his 106th straight start, tying the CSU career record.

UIC rode the hot shooting of Daniel Barnes, who hit three three-pointers in the early going, and the inside play of Josh Crittle to a 30-6 lead at the 7:10 mark of the first half. The Vikings hit just two of their first 20 shots from the field in falling behind.

However, Lee hit four consecutive three-pointers and the Vikings full court press helped trigger a 20-6 CSU run that brought the Vikings within 10 points (36-26) on a Forbes steal and transition layup.

A Gary Talton jumper just before the final buzzer gave UIC a 44-30 lead at the half.

CSU could not get the lead under double-digits in the second half.

The Vikings were just 19-of-60 (.317) from the field, while UIC shot .491 (27-55). The Flames out-rebounded the Vikings, 45-33.
