Vikings Win at UIC, 77-66
Marlin Mason scored a career-high 22 points and Cleveland State shot 51-percent from the field to claim a 77-66 win over UIC on Saturday night in the UIC Pavilion.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: 
• Cleveland State, seeded eighth, opens play in the Horizon League Championship at fifth-seeded UIC on Tuesday (March 5) with a first round game at 8:00 p.m. EST in the UIC Pavilion.
• The winner advances to the second round and will play the winner of a first round game between fourth-seeded Green Bay and ninth-seeded Milwaukee.
• That second round game will be on Friday (March 8) at 8:30 p.m. EST in Valparaiso.
• The Vikings finished the regular season 14-17 overall and tied Loyola for seventh place in the league at 5-11.
• Loyola earned the No. 7 seed and CSU the eight seed based on the Ramblers season sweep of the Vikings.
• UIC is 16-14 and tied for fith place in the league at 7-9 withYoungstown State.
• The Flames earned the No. 5 seed based on their season sweep of the Penguins.
• CSU and UIC have met in the league tournament 10 times, the most-ever for a CSU opponent in the league tournament.
• The Vikings are 3-3 against the Flames in the Horizon League tournament with the last meeting a 73-61 win in Cleveland in the 2011 first round.
• CSU was also 2-2 vs.UIC in the AMCU tournament.
• The Vikings are 0-2 all-time at UIC in the league tournament, dropping games in 2000 and 2005.
• The Vikings swept the season series from UIC, winning in Cleveland, 60-50, on Jan. 7, and in Chicago, 77-66, on Feb. 2.
• CSU has won 12 straight against UIC and 14 of the last 15 meetings dating back to the 2006-07 season.
• The Vikings last loss to UIC was a 74-68 setback in Chicago on Jan. 31, 2008.
• CSU is 19-16 all-time against UIC in Chicago and has won five straight on the road versus the Flames.
• CSU's 77 points in the win at UIC in February marked the second highest point total in league games this season (CSU scored 88 in a win over Milwaukee).
• Three players averaged double figures in the two games versus UIC this season; Bryn Forbes (12.0), Marlin Mason (11.0) andJunior Lomomba (10.0).
• Charlie Lee dished out 16 assists in the two games against UIC this season.

CSU IN THE LEAGUE TOURNAMENT: 
• The Vikings are 11-16 all-time in the Horizon League tournament and 22-23 all-time in conference tournaments.
• CSU is 8-5 in the HL tournament under Gary Waters.
• CSU is 7-2 all-time in the league tournament against teams it swept in the regular season.

FORBES EARNS LEAGUE HONOR: 
• Bryn Forbes was honored as the Horizon League Newcomer of the Year in the league's postseason awards.
• The freshman also led the five-member Horizon League All-Newcomer team that also featured Jordan Fouse (Green Bay), Jordan Aaron (Milwaukee), Kamren Belin (Youngstown State) and Josh Crittle (UIC).
• Forbes is just the second player in program history to earn HL Newcomer of the Year honors (Damon Stringer, 2000).
• Clinton Smith (1985) and Sam Mitchell (1993) were AMCU and Mid-Continent Conference Newcomers of the Year, respectively.

• If CSU wins at UIC on Tuesday, the Vikings will play a second round game on Friday (March 8) in Valparaiso at 8:30 p.m. EST.
