CLEVELAND - Cleveland State hosted Bowling Green, Case Western Reserve and Oberlin on Saturday afternoon in the CSU Convocation Center. Both the women's and men's teams posted a 2-1 mark. The event was the first of two dual meets the Vikings will hold this year.

The CSU women upended Bowling Green (20-2) and Case Western Reserve (27-0) and fell to Oberlin (12-9). Sophomore Erin Mick led the way with an 8-1 mark in foil. On the men's side, the Vikings defeated Oberlin (18-9) and Case (12-9) and fell to Bowling Green (15-9). Sophomore Mike Merker was a spotless 9-0 in foil while classmate Nate Krieger was 7-2 in epee.

"Our opponents ended up with quite a few forfeits on the women's side, but I was very impressed with how our three newcomers fenced in their first meet," CSU head coach Jim Sager said. "I thought our whole team worked very hard.

"Despite our men's team being down a couple of fencers, I was a little disappointed with our performance," Sager continued. "We need more consistency out of the middle and bottom of our lineup."

Cleveland State is off until the spring semester when the Vikings will head to Evanston, Ill. for the Northwestern Mega Meet on Jan. 22-23.
