CLEVELAND - Cleveland State's men's and women's fencing teams put together a perfect mark on Saturday in their only home action of the year. The Vikings blanked Bowling Green, Case Western Reserve and Oberlin in an Alumni Day affair in Woodling Gymnasium.

The men improved to 8-1 on the year with victories over Case (15-12) and Oberlin (25-2), while the women moved to 6-2, defeating Case (25-2) and Oberlin (23-4). Bowling Green forfeited both matches.

Junior Leigh Pendergrass went 5-0 to improve to 16-0 on the year in women's foil, while freshman men's foilist Liran Gross also posted a spotless 5-0 mark on the day.

"This was a nice day for us -- a lot of alumni and family were able to come out and watch us," CSU head coach Jim Sager said. "It also gave us the opportunity to get some new faces into the line-up. I couldn't be more pleased with how both teams have performed so far this season."

Off to their best start in three decades, the Vikings will take a break from competition until mid-January.
