Cleveland State Fencing Teams Earn All-Conference Recognition, Set for NCAA Regionals at Wayne State

Detroit, MI-The Cleveland State fencing teams are headed to NCAA Regionals this weekend at Wayne State University as several fencers on both squads will look to punch their ticket to the national championship.

In addition, the Vikings picked up some hardware from the Central Collegiate Fencing Conference this week as five individuals were named to the All-Conference teams in their respective weapons. Jesse Ndjeka earned First Team honors in men's epee after taking first place at the CCFC Championship two weeks ago. Ndjeka became the first-ever CCFC individual champion in the history of the program. In addition, two other members of the men's epee squad were honored as Merik Pohl and De'Mario Steele each earned a spot on the honorable mention team.

Ilyssa Freiburger earned a spot on the second team in women's saber. Mason Moskowitz rounds out the group of five with an honorable mention recognition in men's saber.

All five of these individuals plus more will compete on Saturday in the NCAA Regional competition. The saber squad will be represented by Conner Bailey, Simon Caisse, Travis Kroggel and Moskowitz.

The epee squad of Ndjeka, Pohl and Steele will be joined by Drew Walker to give Cleveland State four student-athletes competing. Evran Walter will round out the men's competitors and will compete in foil.

On the women's side, Freiburger will compete in the saber competition. Lily Robertson, Mira Semenets and Maia Taylor Cassamayor will all compete in epee.

The women's competition takes place in the morning beginning at 9:00 a.m. The men's competition takes place in the afternoon starting at 1:00 p.m. All events will take place in the Fieldhouse at Wayne State University. Live scoring will be available via Fencing Time Live with results posted at the conclusion of competition.
