He defeated Ohio State's Nowell Gibson, the no. 6 seed, in the round of eight by a 15-13 score. He then took out seventh-seeded Ramadan Dinkins of Wayne State 15-9 in the semifinals before defeating Wayne State's Ahmad Elsayed in the final match to win the title. Mason Moskowitz finished in sixth place in men's saber and Illyssa Freiburger finished fifth in women's saber.
