Fencing Ends Regular Season at Notre Dame

South Bend, IN- The Cleveland State Vikings' fencing teams concluded their regular season Saturday afternoon, competing at the University of Notre Dame Duals. Outside of facing the host Fighting Irish, the CSU men and women took on Air Force, Lawrence, Wayne State, Northwestern, and Detroit in dual action.

The Viking men picked up three team wins on the day, taking down Lawrence (14-13), Wayne St. (17-10), and Detroit (22-9). With the 3-3 day CSU ended the year 18-10 on the men's side. The winning season was the first under Head Coach Andy Tulleners.

Individually for the men it was a balanced effort, as five CSU fencers picked up double-digit wins Saturday. Junior Tom Bienvenu led the way with a 14-4 record in sabre. Paul Duchow (Epee),Phelan Spence (Foil) and John Cuturic (Foil) each followed Bienvenu with 13 wins each. Levi Young also had double-digit wins on the day with 12.

On the women's side, Christine Bocci (Sabre) led the way with six wins, she was followed byAmanda Brown in epee with five victories. Maureen Forinash and Sudeshna Chakraborty also had two wins and one win respectively in foil for the Vikings.

 

 
 
 


CSU will be back in action when they head back to Notre Dame to compete in the Midwest Fencing Conference Championships March 9th and 10th.
