Danielle Cohea is in her 12th year in the Cleveland State Department of Athletics and serves as the Associate Athletics Director for Compliance and Operations, leading the department’s efforts to follow NCAA guidelines and procedures.

She began her tenure at CSU in 2007 as a Compliance Specialist, a role she held for five years before being promoted to Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance in 2012. Four years later, she was named Associate Athletics Director for Compliance and Operations.

One of the longest tenured compliance specialists in the Horizon League, Cohea plays a vital role in ensuring the CSU department of athletics operates within NCAA rules and regulations by issuing rules interpretations and providing education for coaches, staff, student-athletes and external constituents.

In her role, she manages all aspects of departmental and institutional compliance for 18 sports, 350 student-athletes and 70 staff members.

Cohea serves as the athletics department liaison with the NCAA, admissions office, registrar’s office, housing, institutional compliance and financial aid. She also administers all athletic financial aid, National Letters of Intent, athletic grant renewals and the NCAA Special Assistance Fund.

As a member of the senior management team at CSU, Cohea oversees five sports, assisting coaches with budgets, team travel, student-athlete welfare and coaching staff goals and evaluations.

She also oversees the operations of the equipment and facilities offices, helping each department set goals and evaluating the effectiveness of each area.

Cohea attended the NACADA Academic Institute in 2008 and is a member of the National Association for Athletics Compliance and the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators. She served as the chair of the Horizon League Compliance Committee for two years and was the chair of the Horizon League NCAA Legislative Committee for two years. Cohea is also very active on the CSU campus, serving on the CSU Institutional Compliance Committee, as well as the CSU Resident Hall Contract Review Committee.

Cohea began her career as the Assistant Director of Compliance at Towson from 2004-07 before coming to CSU.

She earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Sport Management from Old Dominion in 2000 and a Master’s of Science from Old Dominion in 2005.
