Six Earn Spots on Academic All-League Teams

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland State had six student-athletes named to the 2014 Academic All-League teams that were announced on Friday morning.

Earning spots on the team were sophomore cross country runner Ashlyn Woods, seniors Sabrina Abram and Amanda Sivic of women's soccer, sophomore Sergio Manesio from men's soccer and senior Maggie Hannon and sophomore Grace Kauth from the volleyball team.

Woods, who finished eighth at the league championship to earn a spot on the all-league second team, carries a 3.79 grade point average as a speech pathology major.

Abram carries a 3.94 GPA as a mechanical engineering major was named to the Capital One Academic All-District Five first team in the fall. She anchored a CSU defense this year, which has allowed a CSU single season low 17 goals this year. The unit has posted seven shutouts, tying the school record for most in a season.

Sivic led the team with five goals and tied for the team lead with 10 points. She carries a 3.89 GPA as a pre-physical therapy major.

Manesio was a first team all-league selection after leading CSU with five goals and 11 points. He sports a 3.75 grade point average.

Hannon, who carries a 3.64 GPA, was a first team all-league selection for the second straight season. She was one of 30 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award and was a two-time all-tournament team honoree.

Kauth, who also earned first team all-league accolades, has a 3.89 grade point average. Kauth had a team-best 272 kills with 293 digs on the season – one of just six players in the Horizon League to have at least 250 kills and 250 digs this season. Kauth notched nine double-doubles,

The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Academic All-Horizon League consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale) and have completed at least one year at the member instituion, having earned 24 semester hour or 36 quarter hour credits.
