Viking Sports Weekly (February 3)

Men's Basketball
-Cleveland State will open a three-game road trip with a single contest this week as it heads to Youngstown State Saturday (February 8).
-The Vikings split a pair of home games this past weekend, defeating IUPUI (72-62) and falling to UIC (62-64).
-Juniors Craig Beaudion and Torrey Patton tied for game-high honors in the win over the Jaguars with 18 points each.

Women's Basketball
-Cleveland State (16-6, 6-5) returns home for a pair of Horizon League games this week, hosting Northern Kentucky on Thursday, February 6 and Wright State on Saturday, February 8.
-Last time out, the Vikings split their matchups at IUPUI and UIC to open the second half of #HLWBB play.
-With 19 points at IUPUI, Mariah Miller became the 30th Viking all-time to record 1,000 career points, and enters the week with 1,022 points. 

Fencing
-Cleveland State will be off from competition until it contests the Midwest Conference Championships February 22-23.
-The Viking men and women each posted 1-5 dual records while competing at the NU Duals at Northwestern this past weekend.
-Both squads faced multiple teams receiving votes in the national rankings at the meet, with women's epee topping Stanford and UC San Diego.
-The Vikings tripled the number of overall bout wins they had this weekend compared to the same event last season.

Men's Swimming & Diving
-Cleveland State will be off from competition until it heads to the Horizon League Championships February 19-22.
-The Vikings closed the regular season with a 134-108 triumph over Kenyon this past weekend.
-Junior Matt Akers swept the diving events against the Lords while posting NCAA Zones scores in both events.

Women's Swimming & Diving
-Cleveland State will be off from competition until it heads to the Horizon League Championships February 19-22.
-The Vikings closed the regular season with a 114-113 setback to Kenyon this past weekend.
-Junior Erica Henrichsen swept the diving events while Lexie Kostelnik won the 500 and 1000 freestyle.

Wrestling
-Cleveland State will remain at home this weekend as it welcomes Northern Illinois Friday (February 7) at 7:00 pm.
-The Vikings split a pair of duals this past weekend, winning at Kent State (16-15) and losing to Central Michigan (13-18).
-The win over the Golden Flashes was the first since the 2003-04 season for the Vikings.
-Redshirt senior Justin Patrick went 2-0 on the weekend at 133 pounds and defeated a top-20 opponent against Kent.

Indoor Track & Field
-The Vikings will return to action at the Akron Invitational this weekend, participating in the two-day event on Friday, February 7 and Saturday, February 8.
-This will be the fifth meet of the indoor slate for Cleveland State.

Lacrosse
-Cleveland State will open a string of four straight games away from home when it heads to Michigan this Saturday (February 8).
-The Vikings dropped a heartbreaker in their season opener, falling to Marquette in overtime, 11-10.
-CSU had scored two goals in the final two minutes to tie the game, including one with just 13 seconds left to play.
-Tristan Hanna had a hat trick while Noah Gleeson and Gabe Reno also had three points each.

Men's Tennis
-The Vikings (3-2) will begin a four-match roadswing this week, traveling to Xavier on Saturday, February 8 and Louisville on Sunday, February 9.
-Last week, Cleveland State posted a 2-1 record in a trio of matches, picking up wins against Butler and St. Francis, and dropping a hard fought match at Penn State.
-Nico Mostardi posted a 3-0 record at the top of the singles lineup, moving into a tie for sixth place on the CSU Singles Wins List with 80 career victories.

Women's Tennis
-Cleveland State (3-0) will look to remain perfect this spring, hosting a pair of matches against Toledo (Friday, February 7) and Bowling Green (Sunday, February 9). 
-Last time out, the Vikings picked up a pair of wins against John Carroll and St. Francis, improving to 11-1 at the MMTP over the last two seasons.
-Kateryna Avram picked up a pair of singles wins last weekend, improving to a team-best 3-0 this spring. 

CSU Giving Day 2020

Viking Of The Week
Justin Patrick, Wrestling
Patrick went 2-0 this past weekend, claiming a pair of upset victories at 133 pounds. In his bout at Kent State, Patrick defeated a top-20 ranked opponent by securing a takedown with fewer than five seconds remaining in the match to claim a 4-3 win. His upset win helped Cleveland State take down Kent State, 16-15, the Vikings' first win over the Golden Flashes since the 2003-04 season. The following day, Patrick again took down a higher-rated wrestler from Central Michigan. He posted four-near fall points in the opening period to get a lead and would then score with just seconds left in the bout to post an 11-10 victory.
