A LOOK AT WHAT'S HAPPENING

MEN'S BASKETBALL

  • Cleveland State's magical run at the Horizon League Championship was ended with a 74-57 setback to second-seeded Wright State in the championship game.
  • The eighth-seeded Vikings became the second lowest seed to play in the title game after wins over ninth-seeded Youngstown State (72-71), top-seeded and defending champion Northern Kentucky (89-80) and fourth-seeded Oakland (44-43).
  • Senior Kenny Carpenter and freshman Tyree Appleby were both named to the all-tournament team.
  • Carpenter averaged 17.8 points per game in the HL Tournament along with 4.8 rebounds per game and 3.3 assists per game, while Appleby averaged 15.3 points per game in his first postseason tournament along with 4.3 rebounds per game and 5.0 assists per game.

FENCING

  • Cleveland State hosted the NCAA Midwest Regional this past weekend for the first time since 2012.
  • The event featured the top-ranked team in the country on both the men's and women's sides -- the No. 1 Notre Dame women and the No. 1 Ohio State men.
  • Freshman Declan Forth placed eighth in the men's saber for CSU while senior Sarah Mok (11th) and freshman Emma Hartlaub (14th) both contested the women's foil.

MEN'S GOLF

  • The Vikings return to action at the USF Invitational in Tampa on Monday and Tuesday (March 12-13).
  • CSU has not played since finishing 17th at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate in late February.
  • Junior Anton Krecic leads the Vikings with a 73.0 scoring average and has been the teams top finisher in all six events this year.

MEN'S LACROSSE

  • After playing the previous four games on the road, Cleveland State will host a pair of games this week.
  • The Vikings welcome Lafayette Tuesday, March 13, at 6:00 pm before hosting No. 3 Duke on Sunday, March 18, at 1:00 pm.
  • CSU did not play this past week after dropping a tough 12-11 decision at Canisius on the first weekend of March.

SOFTBALL

  • The Vikings (8-10) continue their trip out west with six games at the Bank of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine Classic from Wednesday through Saturday (March 14-17).
  • CSU dropped five games at the Fresno State Bulldog Classic over the weekend against some of top competition they will play all season, including a game against 17th-ranked California.
  • Mackenzie Joecken went 5-for-10 at the tournament with three home runs.

MEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING

  • The trio of Nico Mostardi, Matthew Terry and Luke Phillips currently have 19 singles wins on the season, and with one more win each, it would mark the sixth time in program history that three Vikings have recorded 20 wins in the same season.
