A LOOK AT WHAT'S HAPPENING

Cross Country
• The Vikings will take the weekend off from competition after wrapping up the regular season at the Jenna Strong Fall Classic last weekend, and will return to the course at the Horizon League Championship on Saturday, October 29.
• CSU recorded a third place team finish at the Jenna Strong Fall Classic on Friday – its best team finish of the season, while Karen Barrientos smashed the Cleveland State 5K record with a career-best time of 18:05.

Fencing
• CSU returns to action on Saturday at the Case Western Fall Open after competing at the OSU Duals last weekend.
• The men's team posted a 5-1 record at the OSU Duals this past weekend, while the women went 4-2 at OSU.
• Matthew Gebbett won his second straight event in the Saber competition, while Adam Mack and Sarah Mok both finished third in their respective events.

Men's Golf
• The Vikings closed the fall season by placing fifth at the Kenny Perry Invitational last week. Anton Krecic was CSU's top finisher, tying for eighth place with a 54-hole total of 218 (70-70-78).
• Patrick Luth led the League with a 70.7 average this fall, while CSU posted the lowest team scoring average at 290.3

Women's Golf
• The Vikings closed the fall campaign with a third place finish at the Roseann Schwartz Invitational last week.
• Kaylee Neumeister placed fifth overall, while Sophie Kelner notched a seventh place finish.

Men's Soccer
• Cleveland State (5-6-2, 3-1-2 HL) has a pair of matches this week as it hosts Pittsburgh on Tuesday (7:00 p.m.) before traveling to Wright State on Saturday, Oct. 22, to take on the first-place Raiders (7:00 p.m.).
• CSU won its lone match this past week, claiming a 1-0 win over UIC.
• Sophomore Gianluca DiFranco scored his first goal of the season in the sixth minute while rookie Sebastian Kalk tallied his second straight clean sheet in goal.

Women's Soccer
• The Vikings (4-10, 1-5 HL) play two matches this week, traveling to Youngstown State for a 7:00 pm match on Wednesday (Oct. 19) and hosting Green Bay on Saturday (Oct. 22) at 1:00 pm for Senior Day.
• CSU's six seniors - Megan Barrick, Sarah Kaiser, Jane Piontowski, Kaila Sargema, Marissa Sarsfield and Haleigh Shingary - will be honored in a pre-match ceremony on Saturday.
• The Vikings dropped their lone match last week, falling 1-0 at Detroit on Saturday.

Men's Tennis
• The Vikings will return to the courts at the ITA Midwest Regional this week, with action beginning on Thursday, October 20 and running through Sunday, October 23.
• Cleveland State will be represented in the Main Singles draw by freshman Nico Mostardi, while Mirko Radosevic, Colton Buffington, Benjamin Slade, Kevin Goth, and Andre Mick earned a spot in the Qualifying Singles draw.

Women's Tennis
• After a week off from competition, the Vikings will return to the courts at the ITA Midwest Regional this week, with play running from Thursday, October 20 through Sunday, October 23.
• Cleveland State will have five representatives in the Qualifying Singles draw, as Isabella Spindler, Aleksandra Golawska, Victoria Bensimon, Jana Schober, and Princess Gbadamosi all earned a spot in the draw.

Swimming & Diving
• CSU will compete in its first dual meet of the season this Friday, Oct. 21, at St. Bonaventure. The Vikings were off from competition this past week.

Volleyball
• Cleveland State (16-4, 7-1 HL) will continue its three-match roadswing this weekend, traveling to UIC (Friday, October 21) and Milwaukee (Saturday, October 22) for a pair of Horizon League contests.
• The Vikings earned 3-0 sweeps over Green Bay and Wright State last week, gaining sole possession of first place in the league standings to begin the second half of league play.
• CSU is on a seven-match win streak and owns a perfect 4-0 record against League teams on the road.

VIKING OF THE WEEK

Gianluca DiFranco | Sophomore | Men's Soccer | Chesterland, Ohio

DiLuca led the Vikings to a 1-0 win over UIC on Saturday night, securing three key points for CSU and moving the Vikings into a tie for third place in the League. He netted his first goal of the season just six minutes into the contest and it proved to be the game-winner. It was the third goal in DiFranco's career.[edit] [customize]
