A LOOK AT WHAT'S HAPPENING

Cross Country
• The Vikings will open the 2016 season this weekend, participating in the Duquesne Duals on Saturday (Sept. 3).
• Cleveland State will have a new look this year, as the Vikings have just four returning letterwinners – seniors Ashlyn Woods and Alanna Shamrock and juniors Samantha Butterbaugh and Emily Marshall.
• CSU's core group of returners will be joined by seven newcomers this season, including a trio of transfers.

Men's Golf
• The Vikings open the 2016 fall season at the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate in Verona, N.Y. on Sunday and Monday (Sept. 4-5).
• CSU returns four of its top five golfers from last season that captured its third straight Horizon League Championship and advanced to the NCAA regionals.
• Junior Joey Krecic returns after earning first team All-Horizon League honors and finishing as the runner-up at the league championship last year. Also back are seniors Patrick Luth, who was third at the league championship last year, and Paul Minko, junior Blake Prince.

Men's Soccer
• The Vikings (2-0) return to action with a 7:00 pm match at #5 Wake Forest on Saturday (Sept. 3) night.
• CSU won two matches to open the season last weekend, earning a 3-0 victory over defending Atlantic-10 champion Dayton on Friday and used four unanswered second half goals on Sunday in a 4-2 win at Robert Morris.
• Two freshmen boosted the Vikings with multi-goal efforts as Lawrence Karpeh scored twice against Dayton and Gabe Pewu scored the tying and winning goals at RMU.
• Junior Hesham Hammouda and senior Dan Koniarczyk each had one goal and one assist in the two matches.

Women's Soccer
• The Vikings (2-2) open its home slate with a pair of matches this week, hosting Ohio at 7:00 pm on Friday (Sept. 2) night and Akron at 1:00 pm on Sunday (Sept. 4).
• CSU won two matches over the weekend, earning 2-0 wins at Canisius on Friday and Niagara on Sunday.
• Freshman Aliani Lorenzo scored both goals in the win at Canisius, while senior Kaila Sargema and sophomore Toni Dickson scored in the win at Niagara.
• Sargema increased her career goal total to 14, moving into sole possession of third on the CSU all-time list.

Volleyball
• Cleveland State (2-1) continues the 2016 season, hosting three matches this weekend. CSU will host Eastern Michigan (10:00 a.m.) and Tennessee (7:00 p.m.) as part of the CSU Invitational on Friday, September 2 and will then host Boise State (4:00 p.m.) in a stand alone match on Saturday, September 3.
• Prior to Friday night's match against Tennessee, the Vikings will welcome back last year's senior class to help unveil their 2015 Horizon League Championship and NCAA Tournament banners.
• The Vikings opened the 2016 season at the Golden Dome Invitational last weekend, picking up a pair of wins over Western Michigan and Seton Hall.
• Grace Kauth and Alexis Middlebrooks were both named to the All-Tournament Team, while Chuck Voss moved within one victory of becoming the all-time winningest coach in program history.

VIKING OF THE WEEK

Jamie Daniels | Jr. | Women's Soccer

Daniels helped the Vikings to a pair of shutouts over the weekend, making 12 saves in two matches. She posted four saves in Friday's win at Canisius and made eight saves in a win at Niagara on Sunday. Daniels now has six career shutouts, the third most in CSU history.

Averaged 4.4 kills and was named to all-tournament team at Golden Dome Invitational.

Gabe Pewu | Fr. | Men's Soccer
Scored the game-tying and game-winning goals in Sunday's win at Robert Morris

Aliani Lorenzo | Fr. | Women's Soccer
Scored both goals in Friday's 2-0 win at Canisius and leads team with five points.
