CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland State hung tough with 17th-ranked Dayton, but the Flyers hit .400 and committed just seven attack errors in 110 chances to claim a 30-28, 30-16, 30-21 victory over the Vikings in nonconference volleyball action on Sunday afternoon in Woodling Gym.

The Vikings dropped to 19-7 overall, while the Flyers improved to 26-1.

"I was happy with the way we played and battled today against a very good Dayton team," head coach Chuck Voss said. "We really battled, especially in games one and three. The final of game three didn't indicate how close that game was."

Game one featured 14 ties and four lead changes with neither team claiming a lead larger than two points until a Flyer kill from Kortney Norris gave Dayton an 18-15 lead. However, the Vikings rode the serving of Jordan Bateman to five consecutive points, including three Bateman aces, to take a 20-18 lead. From there, the Vikings pushed the lead to 27-23, only to watch Dayton score four straight points to knot the game at 27-27.

The teams traded points and with the score knotted again at 28-28, Dayton received back-to-back kills from Lindsay Fletemier and Norris to earn the win.

Dayton raced out to an 8-2 lead in game two as the Flyers wound up hitting .500 (15-1-28) for the game, while holding CSU to a .000 (10-10-37) hitting percentage.

The final game was another close affair, featuring 11 ties and five lead changes with the Vikings taking their biggest lead (13-11) on a kill from Sienna Steinle, but Dayton went on a 7-1 run to take an 18-14 lead. The Vikings managed to cut the deficit to two points on several occasions, with the final time coming at 21-19 on a Jenni Ramminger kill. But the Flyers finished the match by scoring nine of the final 11 points to earn the sweep.

Beth Greulich led CSU with 12 kills, while Liz Fazio added nine kills and seven digs. Mel Snyder handed out 30 assists and recorded seven digs, while Jordan Bateman chipped in 15 digs to run her season total to 523. Ramminger finished with eight kills.

"Jenni had a really good match, both physically and mentally," Voss said. "It was good to see her playing well again after the injury."

Norris and Fletemier paced the Flyers with 11 kills apiece, while Jamie-Lee Richards added 10. Erin Schroeder finished with a double-double of 34 assists and 10 digs, while Chelsy Christoff tallied 14 digs.

The Vikings will conclude the regular season with a league match against Youngstown State on Saturday (Nov. 10) at 2:00 pm in Woodling Gym.

"We are going to work on getting back to basics and getting our offense flowing as we head into the league tournament," Voss said.
