Cleveland State Volleyball Opens #HLVB Play At Youngstown State

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State volleyball team is set to open its 18-match Horizon League slate this week, beginning with a 6:00 p.m. contest at Youngstown State on Tuesday, September 20. 

Tuesday's match will be the first of three matches for the Vikings this week, as Cleveland State will also host Wright State (Friday, September 23) and Northern Kentucky (Saturday, September 24) this weekend.

The 2022 season will mark the 22nd year of Horizon League play for the Vikings, with Cleveland State entering the 2022 #HLVB season as five-time Regular Season Champions. Under head coach Chuck Voss, the Vikings own a 13-8 record in Horizon League openers, including wins in each of the last two seasons.

Entering Tuesday's match against the Penguins, four Vikings rank in the top-five among Horizon League players in various statistical categories; Lydia Latimer (2nd – 1.18 blocks per set), Karly Klaer (4th – 6.97 sets per set), Laken Voss (4th – 3.30 kills per set), and Madison Olinger (5th – 1.10 blocks per set).

As a team, the Vikings rank third in the #HLVB standings averaging 2.38 blocks per set, and have recorded 10+ blocks in seven matches this season, including a season-high 18.0 total blocks against Akron last time out. 

Senior libero Audrey McConihe enters #HLVB play tracking down 1,000 career digs, as she enters Tuesday's match at Youngstown State with 972 total digs. McConihe, who leads the Vikings and ranks sixth among league players averaging 4.06 digs per set, has tallied four 20-dig matches on the year, including a career-high 37 digs against Xavier in the season opener.

Offensively, the Vikings have been paced by freshman Laken Voss, who leads the team with 132 total kills on the year. Voss, who has notched double-digit kills eight times this year, enters #HLVB play on a six-match 10+ kill streak, including a season-best 24 kills against Akron in the first matchup between the two teams.
