Volleyball Opens Season Against No. 12 Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Cleveland State volleyball team kicked off the 2019 season Friday afternoon, taking on No. 12 Pittsburgh as part of the Panther Challenge.

The Vikings held the blocking advantage against Pittsburgh, finishing with 10.0 total team blocks, led by Trinniti Hall who finished with five and Hannah Greene who tallied four.

Hall's five total blocks gave her 200 blocks for her career, as she joins Greene as the only current Vikings with 200+ blocks.

Emily DeGeorge led the Viking offense with six total kills, while London Portis tallied five kills on the match.

Sophomore Christina Grecol eclipsed the 1,100-assist mark for her career Friday afternoon, finishing the match with 19 helpers against Pittsburgh. Grecol also added two kills and three digs on the day.

Defensively, DeGeorge tallied a team-high 11 digs, while Lindsey Tout recorded seven digs playing as the libero.

Freshmen Lydia Latimer, Audrey McConihe, Julia Piccolino, and Keanna Avery each appeared in their first collegiate match on Friday, while junior transfer Alison Thomas played in her first match as a Viking against the Panthers.

Friday's match against the Panthers marked the first contest of head coach Chuck Voss' 20th season at the helm of the Vikings.
