The Viking VolleyBlog: With Sara Skeens | Just An Update!!

Hi guys! I haven't posted in a whileeeee. I know. And people have asked for more (like 3) so I'm here for the fans. So lets give you an update! Well recently I adopted a cat!! I know! I'm more of a dog person but a cat is better suited for my lifestyle currently and saving a life is saving a life. Quick reminder to adopt and not shop! So many animals need our help. So many, it's heartbreaking honestly. Do all that you can even if it's just fostering please! So anyways my new cat, she's a muted calico, she's 6 years old, and I named her Sage. Her name came from her bright green eyes. Honestly they are so pretty. She's adorable and has already made progress since coming from the shelter. I literally got her a week ago and let me tell you she was so stressed there. The shelter had her in a tranquility room and she was still so scared and lost weight and hair there. She was bullied by the other cats and hid. I assume they bullied her because her name was Sauerkraut (???). WHO NAMES A CAT THAT. No like that's such a stupid name that poor girl must've been traumatized solely for that reason. So anyways I get her from the shelter where she's meowing at me and I'm over here like it's ok I got you away from the mean cats. She didn't like being in the carrier at first so I held her to calm her down. My dad was driving and every time he would do something reckless on the road, she would meow and I would agree. So this happened often. But then I ended up driving because I had to go back to Cleveland. Now she didn't want to get out of my arms and into the passenger seat but I managed. I listened to music on the way home and if she liked the song she would sway her tail. If she didn't she would meow until I changed the song. I'm not even kidding because she would meow and then as soon as I changed the song she stopped. (Sorry Russ Sage doesn't like you) (I'm well aware Russ doesn't read my posts). But she does like LANY! Good news! I have no idea if anyone knows who I'm talking about at this point. Well anyways so Sage has already been good about being around the apartment. She loves looking out the window, she loves getting belly rubs, and she loves to knead my stomach for whatever reason. She's thriving it's so great. So yes, I got a cat, her name is Sage, she's great and is my shadow.

And just in case the photo at the top wasn't enough, enjoy a few more photos of Sage...

School is good I like my schedule. I like most of my classes. I'm back and forth on my poetry class because how are you going to tell me I'm interpreting a poem wrong when it's interpretation? It's literally what I think? That's cheating. And apparently there's a thing called scanning in poetry that has to do with syllables and what's stressed and unstressed and it makes me stressed because if I say the poem differently than my professor I'm "wrong" because I "stressed the wrong words". Oh whatever, if I want I can stress the word "the" and be correct. It's all up to ME. But you know cool. I'll be wrong. Don't worry I'm passing. I just might write to the poetry community about this absurdity. It's fine I'm over it. Next. Very passionate about my creative writing class. I love writing so it's great to get to express myself and get feedback and hear others' work. It really expands your limits and pushes your boundaries. For example play writing, we worked on that for the first few weeks and at first I'm like this is dumb I like writing fiction but after writing them it's essentially writing how I am now because you want people to sound real. Talk how they would aloud. And I type exactly how I talk. So I think I did fairly well. Who knows? Might mess around and write a play. Come see me on Broadway.

I guess maybe you want an update on things volleyball. Well it's been an odd season. Challenging even. New people filling important roles. New living arrangements. For me, a lot of new stress. I've slowly worked through it, hence why it took FOREVER to write. Our league season though, we are perfect in the Horizon League so far and strive to keep it that way. Practicing has been weird this year. Like we have a practice 8-10pm once a week and we practice with boys that hit and break our hands. Like you don't realize how high boys jump until you realize there is no chance you're going to touch the ball blocking unless they try to swing into you. Luckily, Andrew, you suck at hitting.

I'm writing this on my way back from Milwaukee. And I'm just so delighted to say we get to visit Wisconsin not once but twice this week as we travel again this weekend!!! That's so great. Just love being on a bus for hours on end. A joy. But anyways, this season we've been pushing and slowly making progress. Slowly accepting more responsibility and creating bonds with teammates. And that's ok that it takes time because that's exactly what it's going to take. Some of us were limited in spring and are just now in action this fall and it took more adjusting than we maybe realized. But that's ok. Because progress is progress. We've got a ways to go but if we keep going forward I have no complaints *disclaimer I'm lying* (Just not for the public eye!) It sounded so positive though right? Right and that's all that counts. Go Vikes. Vike up. All that.

As this post is just an update, I'll hopefully have something more entertaining for you soon!
P.S. who saw my takeover Tuesday?!

Love,
