DETROIT, Mich. - The Cleveland State women's tennis team took four of the six singles matches in winning a key Horizon League match against Detroit on Friday, 4-3. The Vikings moved to 3-2 in the league with the win, and improved to 8-12 overall.

"We came in and lost the doubles point, and we really just started slow," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "Luckily, that didn't cost us the match. We just focused on what we needed to do."

After the Vikings took the top doubles pairing with Sarah Galon and Morgan Ungerott picking up an 8-4 win, the Titans took the next two to put Cleveland State in a 1-0 hole. Galon and Ungerott both picked up singles wins as well, with Galon winning 6-1, 6-1, over Bianca Savarino at No. 1, while Ungerott defeated Andrea Buter at No. 3, 6-3, 6-3. In between, Paulina Reyes took a 6-2, 6-4, win from Kaitlin McVehil. Amanda Cerny clinched the match with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4, win from Jodie Back at No. 6 singles.

"It was three-all when Cerny started the third set, and we got a very clutch performance from our senior," Etzkin said. "She stuck to her game plan and really put on an overhead clinic today."

The Vikings will resume play on Saturday with a match against Oakland.
