Cleveland State Women’s Tennis Set To Open Fall Campaign At MSU Invite

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team will open its 2022 fall campaign this weekend, participating in the Michigan State Invitational on Friday, September 30 – Sunday, October 2. 

This weekend's tournament will be the first of five events for the Vikings this season, including their annual Viking Invitational that they host inside the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion (October 14-16). 

The Michigan State Invitational will be a flighted tournament featuring five draws with players from each team paired up for one doubles match and two singles matches against their respective opponents. The Cleveland State tandems will be:
Oihane Vicario/Bethany Yauch
Sima Heren/Selma Tounsi
Filippa Frogner/Ella Franz
Tereze Vevere/Kiana Rizzolo (Western Michigan) 

Cleveland State will be one of 12 teams competing this weekend, joining Bowling Green, Chicago State, DePaul, Marquette, Michigan, Northern Illinois, Notre Dame, Oakland, Western Michigan, Youngstown State, and the host Spartans.

Cleveland State returns six letterwinners from last season's Horizon League Regular Season Championship team for the 2022-23 campaign, while the Vikings welcome just one freshman in Ella Franz. The Vikings will be under the direction of Frank Polito who is entering his fifth season at the helm and 11th season overall with the program. 

Last season, the trio of Vevere, Vicario and Yauch all recorded 20-win campaigns, with Yauch entering the year with a team-best 33 career singles wins after playing a shortened freshman season.
