CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State women's tennis head coach Frank Polito announced two more additions for the 2020-21 campaign Friday afternoon, as Renata Cipetic (Split, Croatia) and Selma Tounsi (Montreal, Canada) have both signed National Letters of Intent to attend Cleveland State University beginning next fall.
Renata Cipetic | Split, Croatia
Cipetic comes to Cleveland State from Croatia, where she earned multiple appearances in national tournaments. Last year, Cipetic reached the quarterfinals of the ITF Subotica and ITF Stobrez, while she earned a spot in the finals at the ITF Bar.
Throughout her junior career, she also advanced to the semifinals of the National Championship, and made it to the quarterfinals of the Winter Cups with the Croatian National Team.
Polito on Cipetic: "Renata is a great person with a ton of personality. She possesses a big game with the ability to play high in the lineup. I can't wait for her to arrive on campus so we can get to work on the court."
Selma Tounsi | Montreal, Canada
Tounsi will join the Vikings following a standout junior career, which included a top-65 national ranking in the Under 18 age group last year. Tounsi has also been ranked in the top-eight in the Provincial rankings in both the Under 16 and Under 18 age groups.
Tounsi, who earned an appearance in three straight Canadian Nationals, posted her best finish in 2019 when she advanced to the quarterfinals. She has also appeared in the Under 18 Indoor Canadian Junior Nationals.
Polito on Tounsi: "Selma is another great person with a lot of energy, and she is so excited to be a Viking. I think her ceiling is very high, and I can't wait to work with her on the court."
Cipetic and Tounsi will join Bethany Yauch (Pittsburgh, Pa.) who committed to the Vikings last fall.
"These two ladies along with Bethany will certainly help us as we continue to compete for a Horizon League Championship next year," Polito said.
