Women’s Tennis Set For Matches Against Eastern Michigan & Duquesne

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team will continue its spring slate with a pair of matches this week, traveling to Eastern Michigan on Wednesday, March 11 and hosting Duquesne on Friday, March 13.

Last Time Out…
The Vikings dropped a hard fought 4-3 contest against Akron, falling to 8-4 on the season. Cleveland State picked up the doubles point, and also got singles wins from Siân Payne and Gaby Schoenberg on the match.

Cleveland State & The Doubles Point
So far this season the Vikings have captured the doubles point during nine matches, including three straight entering Wednesday's match at Eastern Michigan. As a team, Cleveland State owns a 24-9 doubles record this spring, including a team-best 9-1 mark from Kateryna Avram and Blanche Lenoan. Last time out, the Vikings swept the doubles matches, marking the fourth time this season that they have picked up wins on all three doubles courts.

Vikings At The MMTP
Entering Friday's match against Duquesne, the Vikings stand at 38-13 all-time in the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion, and own a 14-4 record at the MMTP over the last two seasons. Friday's match against Duquesne will be the ninth of a 14-match home slate for the Vikings this season.

Lenoan & Schoenberg Closing In On 50 Career Wins At Cleveland State
Entering's this week's matches, Blanche Lenoan and Gaby Schoenberg are closing in on recording their 50thcareer singles wins at Cleveland State, as Schoenberg enters Wednesday's match with 46 career wins and Lenoan stands at 45 career victories. Lenoan and Schoenberg both have 11 singles wins this year, while Schoenberg owns a 7-5 mark this spring and Lenoan stands at 5-7. This duo would become the 16th and 17th Vikings all-time to reach the 50-win milestone.

Head Coach Frank Polito
Frank Polito is in his second year at the helm of the Vikings, and his eighth year overall at Cleveland State. Over the last two years, Polito has guided the Vikings to a 24-13 record including a 16-9 mark last season. In his first year at the helm, Polito and the Vikings captured a share of the 2019 Regular Season #HLWTEN Championship, and earned an appearance in the league championship match for the first time since 2014.
