Women’s Tennis Continues Spring Season Against St. Bonaventure & Niagara

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team will continue its spring campaign with a pair of matches this weekend, traveling to St. Bonaventure on Saturday, February 29 and hosting Niagara on Sunday, March 1.

Last Time Out…
The Vikings split their matches against Dayton and Xavier, picking up a 5-2 victory against the Flyers and dropping a 7-0 match against the Musketeers. Cleveland State, who has been playing with a shorthanded lineup for the last three matches, now stands at 6-3 on the year.

Lenoan Closing In On 50 Career Wins
Entering the weekend, senior Blanche Lenoan is closing in on recording her 50th career singles win, as she currently owns 44 career victories. Lenoan, who has posted a 10-10 singles record so far this season, is just six wins shy of becoming the 16th Viking all-time with 50 career singles victories.

Cleveland State & The Doubles Point
So far this season the Vikings have captured the doubles point during six matches, including against Dayton last weekend. As a team, Cleveland State owns a 16-8 doubles record this spring, including a team-best 6-1 mark from Kateryna Avram and Blanche Lenoan. All six of Cleveland State's doubles points have come during its six wins on the season.

Avram In Singles Play This Spring
Entering this weekend's matches, senior Kateryna Avram owns a team-best 8-1 singles record this spring, and owns a team-leading 13-8 overall record this year. Avram has appeared at four different spots in the singles lineup so far this spring, and has posted a perfect 6-0 record when playing at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles.

Head Coach Frank Polito
Frank Polito is in his second year at the helm of the Vikings, and his eighth year overall at Cleveland State. Over the last two years, Polito has guided the Vikings to a 22-12 record, including a 16-9 mark last season. In his first year at the helm, Polito and the Vikings captured a share of the 2019 Regular Season #HLWTEN Championship, and earned an appearance in the league championship match for the first time since 2014.
