Vikings Sweep #HLWTEN Weekly Awards

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the first time this season the Cleveland State women's tennis team has swept the Horizon League weekly awards, as Kateryna Avram has been named the Singles Player of the Week and Klara Mrcela and Lara Prosenjak have earned Doubles Team of the Week honors.

This marks the first weekly accolade for Avram, while it is the second time this year that Mrcela and Prosenjak have earned #HLWTEN weekly honors.

Last weekend, this trio helped the Vikings to a 1-1 outing, including a 7-0 sweep against Big East opponent Seton Hall, improving to 5-2 this spring.

Avram posted an undefeated 2-0 singles record last time out, picking up a 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 come-from-behind win at Buffalo and a 6-0, 6-1 straight-set win against Seton Hall. Avram played at No. 4 and No. 3 singles, respectively.

"This is a well-deserved honor for Kate, as she has consistently shown up match-after-match, and has a track record of getting the job done no matter where we put her in the lineup," head coach Frank Polito said. "She has a great mindset going into every practice and every match, and is constantly trying to improve her game."

This spring Avram owns a perfect 7-0 singles record - one of just three league players to pick up a win in every match – while she owns a team-best 12-7 overall record this year.

Mrcela and Prosenjak played as a doubles team in just one match last week, picking up a 6-2 victory at the No. 1 spot against Buffalo.

"Klara and Lara put together another solid doubles match at Buffalo, and continue to play better tennis every time they hit the court together," Polito said. "As I have said in the past, the sky is the limit for this duo, and I can't wait to see what else they can accomplish as the season goes on."

This season, Mrcela and Prosenjak own a team-best 11-4 record, while they stand at 4-2 during dual match play – with all six matches coming at No. 1 doubles.

The Vikings will continue the spring season with a pair of matches this weekend, traveling to Dayton on Friday, February 21 and hosting Xavier on Sunday, February 23.
