Kostelnik Named HL Swimmer of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Junior Lexie Kostelnik of the Cleveland State University women's swimming & diving team was named Nike Horizon League Women's Swimmer of the Week as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.

It's the first weekly honor of the season for Kostelnik and the second of her career.

Kostelnik put forth a record-breaking effort as Cleveland State closed the regular-season at home this past weekend.

Kostelnik won both individual events she entered in CSU's dual this past Saturday and broke a school record in the process. She won the 1000 freestyle in 10:12.48, breaking a six-year-old school record, and posting the fastest time in the Horizon League this season in the event. Her finish in the event put her nearly 12 seconds ahead of the runner-up in the race. After putting forth that effort in the 1000, Kostelnik came back to win the 500 freestyle later in the meet in 5:00.17, just .04 off her season-best time.

Kostelnik is among the top five fastest in the league this season in both the 500 free (5:00.13) and the 1650 free (17:08.00).

Cleveland State has earned at least one Women's Swimmer of the Week award in each of the past five seasons.

Cleveland State will next be in action when it heads to the HL Championships Feb. 19-22.
