McNamara Takes Home Weekly Honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Senior Molly McNamara of the Cleveland State University women's swimming & diving team was named the Nike Horizon League Women's Swimmer of the Week as announced by the League office Tuesday afternoon.

McNamara's second weekly honor of the season is the 10th of her career.

McNamara had a strong start to the 2019 calendar year competing against a pair of Horizon League teams this past weekend.

McNamara won all four individual events she contested across two tri-duals against IUPUI and UIC. She began the weekend by winning the 400 IM in 4:31.66, over five seconds ahead of the field. In the very next event, the 100 butterfly, she won in 56.07 seconds, topping the runner-up by more than 1.5 seconds.

McNamara followed that up Saturday by winning the 200 IM by over two seconds (2:08.57) and winning the 200 butterfly by over four seconds (2:04.36). She also swam the third leg of CSU's winning 400 medley relay Saturday. Her split of 55.39 seconds was the fastest third leg of the relay by over three seconds.

McNamara continues to own the top times in the League this season in the 200 fly and 400 IM. She is the first student-athlete this season to be honored in the League's Women's Swimmer of the Week category more than once.

McNamara is the reigning HL Women's Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Year after she won two titles at last year's League meet in NCAA qualifying times. She broke school records in three individual events and helped two relays break school records at the meet.

Cleveland State continues action this weekend with a dual meet at Marshall Saturday, Jan. 19.
