Bajusz and Deang named to Horizon League All-Academic Team

CLEVELAND – Cleveland State softball student-athletes Sydney Bajusz and Jenna Deang were named to the 2022 Horizon League All-Academic Team, announced by the league offices on Friday.

It is the first time since 2020 that CSU has had two student-athletes selected for the top academic award in the same year.

"Sydney and Jenna are so devoted to their academics," head coach Amy Kyler said. "They are true student-athletes. They put academics first, but also compete to the best of their abilities on the field as well."

For Bajusz, it is the third consecutive year that she has been selected for the Horizon League honor. The Aurora, Ill. native is a psychology major with a minor in neuroscience. She will graduate summa cum laude with an impressive 3.99 GPA. Following graduation, Bajusz will pursue a master's degree in physical therapy.

On the season, Bajusz is hitting .281 with 25 hits, one home run, 13 RBI, 15 runs scored and six stolen bases.

It was the first Horizon All-Academic selection for Deang, a sophomore from Mokena, Ill. Deang, a marketing major, has recorded a 3.97 GPA and has already been on the CSU Dean's List multiple times to start her Viking career.

On the year, the speedy second baseman is sixth in the Horizon with a .345 batting average, is ninth in both hits (40) and steals (eight) and 10th in on-base percentage (.402).

The Vikings find themselves in a fight for first heading into the final regular-season series as CSU makes the short trip to Detroit Mercy to take on the Titans on Friday, May 6 (1 and 3 PM ET) and Saturday, May 7 (3 PM). All three games will be featured nationwide on ESPN+.
