Senior Emery Sipe to Return to CSU as part of the Victory Lap Program

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Following last week's announcement of the Cleveland State Athletics Victory Lap Program, softball head coach Amy Kyler has announced that senior Emery Sipe will be returning to Cleveland State to finish her academic career.

"I'm thrilled that Emery is able to have the chance to finish her undergraduate career at Cleveland State and graduate a Viking," said head coach Amy Kyler. "I'm thankful for President Harlan Sands, Director of Athletics Scott Garrett and Vice President and CSU Foundation Executive Director Julie Rehm for their commitment to providing our student-athletes this incredible opportunity."

An Oakdale, Calif. native, Sipe will graduate in the spring of 2021 with a degree in marketing. The right-handed senior has appeared in 49 games for the Vikings over the span of her four-year career, tallying 76 at-bats, three homeruns and 11 runs batted in.

"Being a first-generation college student, my education has always been very important to me and with the Victory Lap Program being in place, it gives me that opportunity to finish my academic career as a Viking," Sipe said. "I want to thank President Sands, Scott Garrett, as well as the many others who have made this opportunity available. I am eternally grateful for all the help that has been given to me during my time at Cleveland State University."

Cleveland State's "Victory Lap" program, announced on June 18, aims to provide spring-sport senior student-athletes whose seasons were cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, an opportunity to return to Cleveland State and compete for the Vikings during the 2020-21 season while advancing their academic pursuits.

The 14 student-athletes will receive up to the same athletics financial aid award that they received in the 2019-20 academic year, while being able to compete in the 2020-21 season through a waiver approved in March by the NCAA Division I Council.

Donations to assist in funding Cleveland State's "Victory Lap" program are encouraged and can be made at www.csuvictorylap.com. Questions regarding donation opportunities can be sent to Brandon Longmeier, Assistant Athletics Director for the Viking Fund, at b.longmeier@csuohio.edu.
