Vikings Begin 2020 Campaign in Texas

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State Vikings softball team begins their 2020 campaign this Friday (Feb. 14) in San Antonio, Texas, where they'll be playing in the Cardinal Invitational. The Vikings are set to play five games in three days. The schedule is as follows (all times are ET):

  • Friday, Feb. 14 vs. Delaware: 1 p.m.
  • Friday, Feb. 14 vs. Incarnate Word: 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, Feb. 15 vs. Grambling: 11 a.m.
  • Saturday, Feb. 15 vs. Fairleigh Dickinson: 1 p.m.
  • Sunday, Feb. 16 vs. Delaware: 9:30 a.m.

Amy Kyler begins her second season at the helm of the Vikings softball team. Last season, Cleveland State finished with a 15-34 overall record, which marked a three-win improvement from the 2018 season, including an 8-16 clip in Horizon League play.

Kelly Hysong returns to the Vikings for her senior season. The 2019 All-League Second Team member finished the season with a team-best batting average of .331 (59-178), 12 homeruns, 30 RBI and a .646 slugging percentage.

Hysong and sophomore Hanna Griffin combined to start 45 of CSU's 49 games in the circle last year. Hysong posted a 3.92 ERA in 146.1 innings while Griffin managed a 4.44 ERA in 142 innings in her first season as a collegian.

Aly Packish and Lindsay Ward both return for the Vikings after tallying at least 30 hits, 13 RBI and 10 walks in their freshman campaigns last year.

Up next for Cleveland State is the Scotsman Invitational in Clinton, S.C. The Vikings will take on Wagner and Presbyterian on Saturday, Feb. 29 and Sunday, March 1.
