SETTING THE STAGE: The Cleveland State women's soccer team will open Horizon League play on Friday (Sept. 20) when it visits Green Bay for an 8 p.m. match in Aldo Santaga Stadium.

HORIZON OPENERS: Cleveland State is 4-10-1 all-time in Horizon League openers...The Vikings are 1-1 under Dallas Boyer in Horizon League openers...The Vikings have opened the Horizon League schedule on two previous occasions against Green Bay with each team claiming a victory...The Phoenix defeated the Vikings 1-0 in overtime in 2007 and Cleveland State defeated Green Bay 1-0 in 2010...Cleveland State opened the 2018 Horizon League schedule with a 3-1 victory over IUPUI.

VERSUS GREEN BAY: This will mark the 16th all-time meeting between Cleveland State and Green Bay with the Vikings holding an 8-7 advantage in the series...Cleveland State has dominated the recent series against the Phoenix by winning six of the last seven matches...Cleveland State has a 4-4 all-time record in matches played in Green Bay...The Vikings defeated the Phoenix 5-0 last season at Krenzler Field.

ALL-TOURNAMENT VIKINGS: Cleveland State's Elena Gutlove and Kailah Ransom were each named to the all-tournament team at the UTSA Tournament.

HORIZON LEAGUE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Cleveland State's Stevie Holbrook was named the Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week on Aug. 26...It marked the second time in her career she has earned Defensive Player of the Week honors from the league.

LAST TIME OUT: Cleveland State dropped a 2-0 decision to Canisius on Sept. 15 to close out its non-conference schedule...The Golden Griffins used a pair of second-half goals to pull away from the Vikings...Cleveland State celebrated Senior Day against Canisius...The Vikings honored Briana Niedermeier, Bianca Sarti, Elaina Walnoha, Toni Dickson, Kailah Ransom and Sydney Hamker were honored prior to the start of the match.

IN THE PRESEASON: Cleveland State played a pair of exhibition matches in the run up to the season opener...The Vikings tied Buffalo 1-1 at Buffalo on Aug. 12...Cleveland State dropped a 2-0 decision to Duquesne at Krenzler Field on Aug. 16...Freshman McKenna Donahue scored the Vikings goal against Buffalo.

HORIZON LEAGUE POLL: Cleveland State was selected to finish third in the Horizon League Preseason Poll as selected by the league head coaches...The Vikings received two first-place votes and finished with 73 points...Defending Horizon League champion Milwaukee was tabbed as the league favorite, while Northern Kentucky was chosen to finish second in the poll.

THE COACHES: Cleveland State head coach Dallas Boyer is in his third season at the helm of the Vikings and has compiled a 22-20-4 overall record...Jason Spain is in his first season as the head coach at Green Bay after spending the previous nine seasons at Division II Minot State.
