Week #2

THE OPENING KICK:
• Cleveland State plays its road opener Thursday at Niagara before returning home to host local rival Kent State Sunday afternoon.
• CSU is 2-3-1 all-time against Niagara but has beaten the Purple Eagles in each of the last two seasons. CSU is 1-1-1 all-time at Niagara.
• CSU has a current shutout streak of 302:04 against Niagara.
Jenna Prathapa scored twice in the 2017 win over Niagara while McKenna Vento scored once. Toni Dickson scored in the 2016 win at Niagara.
• Kent State and Cleveland State have played in 11 of the past 14 seasons with KSU holding an 8-2-1 lead in the series.
• However, the Vikings claimed a 2-1 victory last season as Grace Grant and Jenna Prathapa both scored within the opening 20 minutes.
• CSU has never beaten KSU at home with a 2010 tie being its best result.

LAST WEEK:
Sarah Krause scored with two seconds left in overtime in her Viking debut to give CSU a 2-1 comeback win over Howard in its season opener.
• The Vikings then cruised to a 3-1 win over Chicago State that saw Dani Sowinski (2A) and McKenna Vento (1G, 1A) factor into multiple goals.

FREE KICKS:
• Head coach Dallas Boyer, in his second season in the top spot, has been on the coaching staff for 12 of the 15 seasons in program history.
• Cleveland State won nine games last season, one off the school record, and tied the program record with five League victories.
• CSU scored 28 goals last season, tying the school record, while its 224 shots reset the program standard.
• The Vikings are 2-0-0 for just the third time in the program's 15 seasons and the first time since 2013. Cleveland State has never started 3-0-0.
• Sophomore Stevie Holbrook was named the Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week for the season's opening week.
• Holbrook allowed a lone goal in her first collegiate start, an overtime win over Howard, including making a diving save in the extra session. She then kept a clean sheet for over 65 minutes against Chicago State before being subbed out.
Jenna Prathapa became the first player in program history to earn HL Freshman of the Year honors last season. She had six goals and three assists on the year, both of which were the most in a season by a CSU freshman.
• CSU's win over Howard marked the ninth time since the beginning of the 2015 season that the Vikings came back to win a match in which they had been trailing at some point. However, it was the first such occurrence in non-conference play since a 2-1 win at Eastern Kentucky in August 2015.
• Twenty three of the 24 field players on the roster saw action on the opening weekend for the Vikings, including all nine that are new to the team in 2018.
Dani Sowinski had the first multi-assist game of her career in the win over Chicago State and had three assists in the opening two games.
• Each of CSU's last seven regular-season matches that has gone to overtime has had a winner. CSU has won five times with its opponent winning twice.

UP NEXT:
• CSU heads south for two games in three days next weekend in North Carolina as it competes in the Courtyard by Marriott UNCW Invitational.
