Holbrook Named HL Defensive Player of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Sophomore Stevie Holbrook of the Cleveland State University women's soccer team was named the Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week in a League announcement Monday afternoon.

Holbrook is the third Viking to earn this honor since the League began awarding weekly defensive accolades in 2012, joining two-time winner Jamie Daniels and four-time honoree Sarah Wood.

Holbrook helped Cleveland State to a pair of wins on opening weekend, marking just the third time in program history that the Vikings have won each of their first two fixtures.

In the season opener against Howard, Holbrook earned the win in her first collegiate start. She posted four saves, allowing a lone goal, in the contest. Holbrook made a diving stop to her right in the 93rd minute with the match hanging in the balance. Holbrook kept a clean sheet for over 65 minutes in Sunday's match against Chicago State before giving way with the outcome of the match seemingly in control.

Cleveland State resumes action Thursday, Aug. 23, with its road opener against Niagara.
