TOURNAMENT PREVIEW

CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland State women's golf team will open the 2019-20 season on Monday (Sept. 2) at the Roseann Schwartz Invitational hosted by Youngstown State on the Mill Creek Golf Course.

This will mark the sixth consecutive year that the Vikings have opened the season by competing at the Roseann Schwartz Invitational. In each of the previous five seasons, Cleveland State has finished no lower than third in the tournament.

Junior Madison Butler returns to lead the Vikings after a stellar season in 2018-19. She earned All-Horizon League honors, was a member of the Horizon League All-Tournament team and established a Cleveland State single-season scoring record with a 76.9 stroke average. In her first collegiate tournament in 2017, Butler earned medalist honors at the Roseann Schwartz Invitational and also finished third in the tournament last season.

The Vikings return six letterwinners from last season. In addition to Butler, Ashley Knight, Amanda Baker, Meg Rossouw, Grace Zimmerman and Rayna Oosterhuis return for the Vikings.

Knight was second on the team last season with a 78.8 scoring average and had two top-10 finishes a year ago.

Baker competed in just three events, but had a 79.7 scoring average and had one top-20 finish on the year.

Rossouw competed in 10 events and played 24 rounds and had an 81.7 scoring average, while Zimmerman played in all 27 rounds and 11 events and finished the season with an 82.1 average.

Oosterhuis battled injuries throughout the season and finished the year with an 83.0 stroke average while competing in three events.

Freshmen Averi Hanna and Lexi Knight will join the returnees to round out the Viking team.

The Roseann Schwartz Invitational will consist of 18 holes on Monday and conclude with 18 holes on Tuesday (Sept. 3).
