Vikings Head Back to Michigan for Second Straight Event

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State University women's golf team will continue its fall season this week by competing at the Shirley Spork Invitational in Ypsilanti, Mich.                                                                                                                                  

The 54-hole event will be played at the par-72, 6,170-yard Eagle Crest Golf Club and is hosted by Eastern Michigan. Teams will play rounds one and two on Monday, beginning with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start with the final round slated for Tuesday morning with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start. The Vikings finished in eight place of 10 teams at the inaugural Shirley Spork Invitational last year with a final score of 948. Amanda Baker was CSU's top finisher at the event by shooting 74-78-82 (234).

Sophomore Madison Butler has been the Vikings' top finisher at each of CSU's three events thus far this season. She tied for third last time out at the Golden Grizzlies Invitational, her second top-five showing of the season. Butler leads CSU with a 75.0 strokes per round average.

Junior Kaylee Neumeister and sophomore Ashley Knight both own a top-10 finish on the season and own the second (77.9) and third-lowest (78.7) scoring averages, respectively. Baker is one shot behind Knight for the season with an average of 79.7 strokes per round.

The field at this year's tournament will include 10 teams: Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Cleveland State, Dayton, Eastern Michigan, Loyola (Ill.), Oakland, Ohio, Purdue Fort Wayne and Western Michigan. Individuals from Michigan will also compete.

Cleveland State will close the fall season Oct. 14-15 at the MAC Preview.
