Cleveland State Seeks More Success at Oakland

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State University women's golf team will be in action for the second straight week as it gets set to compete at the Golden Grizzlies Invitational in Rochester, Mich.

Hosted by Horizon League foe Oakland, the Golden Grizzlies event is in its fifth season and is played at the 6,056-yard, par-72 Katke-Cousins Golf Course. Live results for the 36-hole tournament will be available through Birdiefire at the link at the top of this article.

The teams will begin Monday at Noon and commence the final round Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. with shotgun starts being used both days.

Sophomore Madison Butler has been the Vikings' top finisher in each of their two events thus far, tying for 11th in the 87-player field last time out at the Cardinal Classic. She has shot a round of even-par 72 in both events thus far and has a team-best 74.0 scoring average.

Junior Kaylee Neumeister and sophomore Ashley Knight have been among the top three finishers in both events for CSU and have scoring averages of 75.8 and 76.6, respectively. Sophomore Amanda Baker fired a final-round 74 at the Cardinal Classic last time out to tie her career low.

The Vikings shot 300 in the final round at the Cardinal Classic, their second round of 300 or better this season.

Five HL schools will be among the 11 total competing in the Golden Grizzlies tournament. The field features: Central Michigan, Chicago State, Cleveland State, Detroit Mercy, Eastern Michigan, Green Bay, Loyola (Ill.), Niagara, Northern Kentucky, Oakland and Purdue Fort Wayne.

Cleveland State won the Golden Grizzlies Invite in the only prior time it competed at the event as the Vikings took home the title in 2016. CSU shot 317-320 that year to claim a one-shot win over Oakland as all five players finished among the top 15.

Cleveland State will resume action on the second week of October at Eastern Michigan's Shirley Spork Invitational.
