Cleveland State Women’s Basketball Adds Sara Guerreiro For 2022-23 Campaign

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State women's basketball head coach Chris Kielsmeier announced another addition to the 2022-23 recruiting class Monday afternoon, as Sara Guerreiro (Seixal, Portugal) will join the Vikings for the upcoming season.

Guerreiro will join the Vikings with three years of eligibility remaining.

"We are ecstatic that Sara will be joining our program next year! She is coming from a top-25 team and she knows what it takes to win," Kielsmeier said. "Sara is a versatile combo guard who is efficient on the court and excellent in the classroom. Sara definitely has the desire and passion that it takes to help us chase championships, and we can't wait to get started."

Guerreiro comes to Cleveland State after spending her first two seasons at USF where she was part of back-to-back NCAA Tournament teams, helping the Bulls make two straight AAC Championship game appearances, including capturing the title during the 2020-21 campaign.

"Cleveland State is a place where there's a valuable work ethic and great competition. I want to help the Vikings win a championship and be part of a team that makes history for the program," said Guerreiro.

Last season Guerreiro appeared in 27 games for the Bulls, earning a spot in the starting lineup on three occasions. In limited minutes, Guerreiro averaged 1.1 points and 0.8 rebounds per game, while also picking up nine assists and five steals on the year.

As a freshman, Guerreiro saw action in just nine games, averaging 1.1 points and 0.9 rebounds per game.

Prior to USF, Guerreiro played for Quinta Dos Lombos in Lisbon, Portugal, averaging 5.9 points and 3.0 rebounds per game while shooting 52.7 percent from the field and a .833 clip from the free throw line. In addition, Guerreiro also spent time with Portugal's U20 and U18 national teams.
