Vikings Pick Up 72-57 Victory At Purdue Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Cleveland State women's basketball team picked up their second straight win on Saturday, earning a 72-57 victory at Purdue Fort Wayne to improve to 2-2 on the season.

Game Stats
· Three Vikings finished the game with double-digit points, led by Destiny Leo who recorded 19 points. Mariah White added 17 points, while Nadia Dumas posted 15.
· As a team, the Vikings shot 42-percent from the floor, including a .412 clip from three-point.
· Taylah Levy posted a team-high six assists on the night.
· Nadia Dumas grabbed a team-high nine rebounds, while Taylah Levy added five and Raevyn Harris posted four boards.
· Cleveland State recorded 13 steals on the game, including four from Mariah White and three from Taylah Levy.
· The Cleveland State defense forced Purdue Fort Wayne into 21 turnovers.

Game Notes
· Destiny Leo notched her first double-digit scoring game of her collegiate career Saturday, finishing with a team-high 19 points, which included five three-pointers.
· After finishing Saturday's game with 17 points, Mariah White eclipsed the 950-point mark for her career, ending the weekend with 961 points.
· Nadia Dumas followed up her record-setting night on Friday with another 15-point performance against Purdue Fort Wayne, tying her career-high.
· Taylah Levy tied her career-high with her six assists on the game.
· With the 13 steals on Saturday, CSU has now posted double-digit steals three times this season.
· With the win, head coach Chris Kielsmeier now has 449 career victories, needing just one more win to become the second active #HLWBB coach to reach the 450-win mark for their career.

The Game
After a back and forth first half, Cleveland State was able to take a 33-26 lead into the halftime break after closing the second quarter on a 6-2 run. During the first 20 minutes of action, freshman Destiny Leo led the Vikings offensively, posting 13 points including a trio of three-pointers.

Just a few minutes into the third quarter the Vikings were able to gain a double-digit advantage, earning a 40-30 lead on a Barbara Zieniewska three-pointer. The double-digit advantage wouldn't last for long though, as Purdue Fort Wayne was able to trim the lead to just five points with just over four minutes remaining, but another Leo three-pointer on the next possession put the Vikings back up by eight points at 49-41.

The Vikings were then able to close out the quarter with a double-digit lead, taking a 55-43 advantage into the fourth quarter.

Cleveland State was able to carry its momentum into the final 10 minutes of play, as the Vikings opened the quarter on a 6-2 run, extending their lead to 61-45 on another Zieniewska three-pointer at the 7:50 mark. The Vikings were then able to hold a sizeable lead for the remainder of the contest, coming away with the 72-57 victory for the weekend sweep at Purdue Fort Wayne.
